Proposal to Eliminate Gas-Powered Vehicles is a “Ban with No Plan”

Proposal to Eliminate Gas-Powered Vehicles is a “Ban with No Plan”

For months, I have been working with my House Republican colleagues to stop the Democrat-proposed BAN on the sale of new gas-powered cars and trucks in Connecticut.

We have urged the governor and majority-party Democrats to “pump the brakes” on their ill-conceived plan, and have the FULL general Assembly debate and vote.  So far, they have been unwilling to discuss it, and under the guise of clean air want to strip your ability to choose and force us to abide by laws created and passed thousands of miles away in California.

Connecticut residents have no representation in Sacramento. It’s very troubling.

Despite repeated questions about cost, implementation, viability, and more, they’re pushing forward with a plan that will not only cost you thousands of dollars, but will also decimate our already fragile electrical grid. In fact, Eversource said it could cost more than $2 BILLION to make necessary upgrades.

Where will that money come from? Neither they, nor the administration, has informed us of the source of those funds. Sadly, as with many things in state government, the money will come out of YOUR pocket.

The legislature’s Regulations Review Committee, of which I am a member, will be taking up this issue on November 28th. I encourage you to contact Democrats who serve on the Committee, and urge them to disapprove the ban, sending the matter to the full legislature for debate and vote.
