Rep. Delnicki Ends Successful SW Diaper Drive

SOUTH WINDSOR- Spearheaded by State Representative Tom Delnicki (R-14) in cooperation with local small business ‘The MAX Challenge of South Windsor’ hosted a successful Town-Wide Diaper Drive for families in-need.
“I was proud to sponsor this diaper drive. I want to thank The Max Challenge for helping collect diapers. Diapers are not luxury item for families; they are an essential part of the health and well-being of infants and toddlers,” said Rep. Delnicki. “I have heard too many about the high cost of diapers. No child should be left without diapers.”
After the collection, Rep. Delnicki delivered over 1500 diapers to the South Windsor Food & Fuel Bank. The Director of Human Services in South Windsor, Andrea Cofrancesco was very grateful for the generosity from all those who participated and contributed donations.
The average child will use more than 2,700 diapers in the first year alone, which can add up to more than $550 (based on an average price of $0.20 per disposable diaper).
It’s estimated that disposable baby diapers can cost more than $50 per month, or at least $600 in the first year. While diapers are expensive for any family, it is particularly burdensome for low-income families. At present, safety-net programs such as the Food Stamp Program and WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children) do not cover the cost of diapers.
