Delnicki hails State Grant for SW Water Pollution Control Facility
HARTFORD- State Rep. Tom Delnicki (R-14) today applauded the state’s Bond Commission for approving a state grant for Town of South Windsor to replace the centralized odor control system at the South Windsor Water Pollution Control Facility.
“I want to thank the governor for approving this grant so quickly. The aim is to mitigate the odor from the South Windsor Water Pollution Control Facility on Vibert Road, permitting the affected South Windsor neighborhood relief from this situation,” said Rep. Delnicki, who championed this bipartisan bond authorization in the state bond package as part of the two-year state budget with Rep. Maryam Khan and State Sen. Saud Anwar.
On June 30th, the State Bond Commission, chaired by Governor Ned Lamont approved the grant in the amount of $1,300,000 to replace the existing centralized odor control system at the South Windsor Water Pollution Control Facility which frequently exposes nearby residents and non-profit facilities (including Wood Memorial Library, Nawashe Village outdoor museum of native American life, and the South Windsor Historical Society) to excessive sewer odors.
The odor control systems use a biological filter which is easily overwhelmed by conditions in the influent, turbulence of sludge in the gravity thickeners and sludge storage tanks, or because of seasonal changes which may increase the odor sources.
