DELNICKI HAILS STATE GRANT FOR SOUTH WINDSOR TRAIL

SOUTH WINDSOR- State Rep. Tom Delnicki (R-14) today announced that the State Bond Commission will be awarding a state grant for the construction of the Crosstown Trail in South Windsor.
The State Bond Commission will be holding a meeting on October 6th, and the South Windsor Crosstown Trail was on the latest agenda with an allocation of $1.2 million.
The Crosstown Trail will be appropriately 6.2 miles in length and will allow safe south to north travel across the Town. The south entrance will also allow access to the Charter Oak Greenway in Manchester. This trail, when established, will provide safe off-road routes for commuters, walkers, bicycle tourists and individuals who use wheelchairs. While traversing the town the trail will pass through Wapping Park, the South Windsor Land Conservation Trust, Nevers Park and the South Windsor Wildlife Sanctuary before exiting into the farming community of East Windsor. The Crosstown Trail will allow residents, both from South Windsor and surrounding towns, the freedom of exploring and enjoying this rural section of Connecticut.
Rep. Delnicki said, “I want to thank Governor Lamont for this grant award. The addition of such a trail to South Windsor will help increase the town’s quality of life for its resident by increasing access for physical activity. By offering another method of travel, this trail could also help to decrease the town’s automobile emissions, decreasing local air pollution, and lower the intensity of traffic through his region.”
According to the South Windsor Walk & Wheel Ways, a sub-committee of the town of South Windsor’s Parks and Recreation Commission, thousands of people will be able to take advantage of this new trail and will be able to travel across the 6.2-mile-long trail from areas in the northern part of South Windsor near agricultural land in East Windsor and Ellington, down to the southern-located Charter Oak and East Coast greenways.
“I believe that this Crosstown Trail project will help connect the people of the region with their environment. The Crosstown trial will be a great additional to community. Many thanks to the South Windsor Walk and Wheel Ways for their continued advocacy for this great project,” added Rep. Delnicki.
