Delnicki: CT moves to Officially Recognizes Diwali
HARTFORD- On Friday, State Rep. Tom Delnicki (R-14) hailed final General Assembly passage of a new law recognizing Diwali and its importance in our Connecticut state law.
The legislation, Senate Bill 1519, An Act Designating Various Days, Weeks and Months, section 135 will have the Governor shall proclaim the fifteenth day of the month of Kartik in the Hindu lunar calendar of each year as Diwali, to celebrate this festival of lights. Suitable exercises may be held in the State Capitol and elsewhere as the Governor designates for the observance of the day.
“This is wonderful news, especially for the flourishing and thriving Indian American community in South Windsor, said Rep. Delnicki, a co-sponsor of the legislation. “With the passage of this historic law, we honor the spirit of Diwali—the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. By proclaiming the 15th month of the of Kartik in the Hindu lunar calendar each year as Diwali, we celebrate the rich cultural heritage of millions and affirm our shared belief in the power of light to guide us toward unity, peace, and renewal.”
The bill now awaits the signature of Governor Lamont.
