State Representative Mark DeCaprio Opposes Controversial Housing Bill

On Wednesday's Special Session, I did not support HB 8002, a 104-page new bill, which passed the House 90–56. The bill closely mirrors HB 5002, which Governor Lamont vetoed on June 23, 2025.

While some of the provisions of this new bill have merit, HB 8002 still retains the “Fair Share” framework that assigns housing targets to municipalities and includes state preemptions that diminish local planning and zoning authority. I oppose shifting more power away from our local communities.

What the Governor vetoed was wrong for Bozrah, Colchester, Franklin, and Lebanon, and this version is no different.
