HARTFORD – State Representative Tina Courpas (R-Greenwich) on Wednesday called on Governor Ned Lamont to veto HB 5002, a controversial measure that severely undermines local control over zoning and land use decisions.
Rep. Courpas continued to fight for her towns on the last day of the legislative session calling the bill “an all-out assault on local decision-making” that “strips communities of their ability to shape their own future and imposes a top-down, one-size-fits-all mandate that ignores the unique needs of our towns.”
Despite strong opposition from local leaders and legislators who believe zoning decisions should remain with the people who actually live in and understand their communities, the bill was passed both the House and Senate.
Rep. Courpas personally delivered a letter to Governor Lamont on Wednesday, the last day of the 2025 Legislative Session, urging him to veto the bill and respectfully asked the Governor to stand with the 149th District and reject the misguided legislation before it becomes law.
