Torrington – In recognition of National Purple Heart Day, State Rep. Jay Case (R-Winsted) and State Senator Kevin Witkos (R-Canton) attended a ceremony in Torrington on Friday morning. The annual event was held in front of City Hall and was well attended by public officials, first responders, and the community’s veterans.

For men and women in our military, receiving a Purple Heart is an indicator that they have been shot and wounded or, in the gravest scenario, killed in action. Torrington has been designated as a “Purple Heart City” for its continued tradition of recognizing the men and

women across our armed forces who have received this honor, including many of its own citizens.

“It is critical that we continue the tradition of honoring those individuals in our armed forces that proved that they were willing to give the ultimate sacrifice, so that you and I could enjoy the freedoms we all have today. Thanks is not enough, but honoring these heroes is a small token of appreciation we can show to them and their families for their selfless service,” said Rep. Case.
