HARTFORD – The Connecticut Association for Healthcare at Home has named State Representative Jay Case (R-Winsted) as the 2018 “Legislator of the Year.” The association represents 65 Connecticut home health and hospice provider agencies that serve communities all over the Northwest Corner and Greater Torrington areas.

In a letter sent to Rep. Case, the association’s president and CEO Deborah Hoyt said, “You have been our industry’s champion for Connecticut families in need of healthcare in home and community-based settings, as well as a leader in advocating for the sustainability and adequacy of our provider safety net to ensure positive health outcomes for low-income residents. Your efforts in communicating our challenges around Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) to DSS were significant.”

In Hartford, Rep. Case serves as the Ranking Member to the legislature’s Human Services Committee. The cognizance of the committee generally falls on matters of delivering life sustaining and improvement services to underserved populations.

“Leveraging the partnerships the state has with the various providers is a major reason why we have been able to successfully navigate the state’s struggling economic situation without putting our most vulnerable citizens in harm’s way. Strengthening the safety net is a core function of our state government. It’s no secret we have limited resources in Hartford and the pool seems to be getting smaller by the day, which is why it’s critical to keep health services accessible and available to those in need,” explained Case.

Rep. Case will officially be recognized by the association at ceremony that will be held later on this year, in November.
