Case, Canino Host Pizza & Policy Event in Torrington

Key Takeaways
- Case, Canino engage voters at a grassroots policy forum
- Discuss local taxes, spending, and government accountability
Torrington – State Representatives Joe Canino (R-Torrington) and Jay Case (R-Winsted) recently co-hosted a Pizza & Policy event at Bad Dog Brewing Company. Residents from Torrington attended the event and had the opportunity to engage directly with their state representatives ahead of the 2026 legislative session, which begins next Wednesday.
Discussion topics included the general cost of living, public safety, and energy costs.
“We appreciated the opportunity to interact with so many members of our community,” the lawmakers said in a joint statement. “Residents raised real issues that must be addressed during the upcoming legislative session. The cost of living, driven largely by high energy costs, is taking a serious toll on Torrington families. We must do everything we can to eliminate the public benefits charge and address other egregious taxes, such as the prepared meals tax, to help make life more affordable.”
The conversation also focused on local challenges, including the recruitment and retention of police officers at both the municipal and state levels. Lawmakers noted that rising rents and utility costs are making it increasingly difficult for seniors to maintain their independence.
“Public safety is essential to a strong community,” the representatives added. “Last year, we supported measures to help first responders and police, but more can be done to strengthen the ranks of our police and fire departments. Public safety and road safety remain top priorities.”
