HARTFORD – State Representative Jay Case (R-63) applauded a $250,500 bonding allocation to the Winchester Public Schools, which was approved by the State Bond Commission on Friday.

“Winchester Public Schools have been faced with adversity in recent years, which has been compounded by flat state funding,” explained Rep. Case, “These funds will allow the school to make much needed improvements that otherwise could not be completed.”

These funds are requested to finance grants-in-aid, based on approved applications, specifically to Alliance Districts for general improvements to school buildings. Eligibility for such grants is determined on the basis of a five-year period for a specific school district’s designation in the initial year of application as a priority school district.

Grant awards are made annually, however, are contingent upon the filing of an application and a satisfactory annual evaluation.

“The capital improvement funds will help us address much needed repair and upgrades to our schools,” said Winchester Public Schools’ Receiver Robert Travaglini, “The priority improvements are communication & technology systems, roofing and upgrades of security systems.”

The grant program was established by the legislature in July of 1998.
