Rep. Case’s statement on Burrville Fire Training School funding

HARTFORD – State Rep. Jay Case (R-63) today thanked and supported the State Bond Commission’s decision to allocate $1.5 million to fire training schools throughout Connecticut, including the Burrville-Torrington location.
The Burrville Fire Training School, along with Beacon Falls, Cheshire, Fairfield and Willimantic, will use the money for capital and infrastructure improvements, as directed by the Department of Administrative Services. The $1.5 million will specifically fund “design and soil hazardous material removal services” – part of a larger $46.2 million project covering all the state’s fire training schools. Of that, $1.2 million has previously been approved in accordance with a 2007 budget line item.
“Today is another step forward in improving the Burrville training facility, and another step in furthering public safety in the Northwest Corner. This location provides adequate training to already superb services, which we believe include some of the best in the state. I’m glad to see our taxpayer dollars coming back to our community after all these years and I will continue seeking investments like these,” Rep. Case said.
In addition to the fire school money, Torrington also received a $748,843 allocation to upgrade its technology infrastructure – funded through the state Department of Education – to meet Common Core standards.
