Hartford – State Representative Jay Case (R-Winsted) welcomed Karla Ferrer, who is an accomplished Special Olympics Connecticut (SOCT) athlete, to the House of Representatives on Wednesday, April 24th. The organization came to the Capitol to provide an opportunity for state legislators to meet with SOCT athletes and learn more about their activities both on and off the athletic field. Karla was joined by her family’s service dog, Mickey, who has been trained locally at ECAD (Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities). According to Karla, Mickey has been with the family for six years and he has been critical in assisting her and her mother, Zoraya Irizarry, with their daily tasks.
