HARTFORD — With the 2013 legislative session a week old in the General Assembly, many issues have topped the discussion, and state Rep. Jay Case wants his constituents to know about the matters potentially affecting them.

Rep. Case (R-63) is reminding residents of Colebrook, Goshen, Torrington and Winchester to view the “Major Issues” report by the nonpartisan Office of Legislative Research. A member of the Appropriations, Environment, Energy & Technology, and Human Services committees, Rep. Case outlines the need for taxpayers to stay informed.

The report, Rep. Case believes, will help them.

“This is an informative summarization of current priorities topping the House and Senate discussions,” Rep. Case said Thursday. “The budget deficit tops the list, but we have a number of other concerns we’re tackling this year. With out-of-control spending from years past, the legislature and Governor are going to have to make some difficult, deficit-cutting decisions so we don’t dig our state into a deeper hole.”

In addition to the state budget, gun and school safety legislation – driven by a bipartisan task force of party leaders – is expected to take ground. Rep.

Case joined the Connecticut Sportsmen’s Caucus on Thursday, which might have a role to play in shaping gun violence legislation.
For Rep. Case, the OLR report (http://bit.ly/V8lZBV – will open up a Word document) outlines storm response and energy strategies important to his committees, along with Medicaid and Department of Social Services (DSS) administrative capacity.

“I’d encourage my constituency to read the report, further their research and education on topics, and engage with my office in open and informational dialogue,” Rep. Case said. “That’s why I’m here; to serve their needs.”

Rep. Case’s office can be contacted at (860) 240-8700 or toll free at 1-800-842-1423. He can be reached by e-mail at Jay.Case@housegop.ct.gov.
