HARTFORD – The Connecticut Community Providers Association (CCPA), a human and health services trade organization, recognized State Rep. Jay Case (R-63) on Thursday for his continued advocacy in the legislature for nonprofits assisting the state’s most vulnerable citizens.

Rep. Case received the CCPA’s 2014 Community Champion Award during its 45th Annual Meeting at the Marriott Downtown, surrounded by organization leaders, trade administrators CCPA Case photo 1aand human services advocates. Rep. Case, along with a bipartisan group of lawmakers, launched the intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) caucus – the first group of its kind in Connecticut, and one of the first in the country – that brings to the table policymakers and members of the I/DD community.

“It’s a true honor to be recognized by CCPA,” Rep. Case said. “This is an organization of people who advocate and fight every single day for our most vulnerable citizens – children, individuals and families with intellectual and developmental disabilities – and provide quality services for them. We still have a lot of work to take on together, but it’s a task that I’m willing to continue at the Capitol.”

The I/DD caucus meets regularly to discuss programs and funding and how Connecticut can produce a more efficient, more welcoming atmosphere for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. One of its biggest accomplishments during the inaugural 2014 legislative session was restoring crucial funding allowing citizens to retain their housing.

The legislature convenes for the 2015 session on Jan. 7 – and the I/DD caucus expects to lead the charge on human services issues. Rep. Case, a member of the General Assembly’s Human Services Committee, will continue being the point person for causes close to the CCPA.CCPA Case photo 2a
