Rep. Case joins state environment department for ‘No Child Left Inside’

TORRINGTON – The annual No Child Left Inside Winter Festival is coming to Burr Pond State Park and State Rep. Jay Case (R-63) is leading the charge, joining the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, to encourage parents and children to get outside, even during the colder winter months.
On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Rep. Case and DEEP officials will be guiding families through ice fishing, ice skating, snowshoeing, guided hikes, games, a bonfire and much more.
No Child Left Inside is the brainchild of the DEEP, promising to “introduce children to the wonder of nature – for their own health and well-being, for the future of environmental conservation, and for the preservation of the beauty, character and communities of the great State of Connecticut.”
“I’m excited for our kids,” Rep. Case said. “Winter is a great time to experience Burr Pond and the northwest corner of Connecticut because of all it has to offer. No Child Left Inside provides fresh air and exercise in a scenic setting.”
Studies indicate to help avoid the cold and flu it is healthier to get outside. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, “Cold weather does not cause colds or flu. But the viruses that cause colds and flu tend to be more common in the winter, when children are in school and are in closer contact with each other.”
Families and children in attendance need to dress in warm layers, not forgetting warm boots, gloves or mittens and hats.
