Rep. Case commends Gilbert School staffers on excellence in education

WINSTED – State Rep. Jay Case, R-Winchester, awarded two Gilbert School staff members with citations for their achievement in education excellence, and thanked them for their dedication to improving the Winchester-based school.
The citations, signed by leaders of the Connecticut General Assembly, were given to Cynthia J. Geiger for her Teacher of the Year award and library media specialist Jody Pillar, who was named Exemplary High School Educator of the Year by the Connecticut Association of Schools.
“These two women have enriched the lives of many students who have been fortunate enough to be in their classrooms or associated with their programs,” Rep. Case said Wednesday. “I commend these women for their hard work, thank them for their dedication, and encourage them to continue giving back to the education community. This is recognition for a job well done. Gilbert School and its surrounding community is grateful to have such devoted educators.”
Geiger was named Teacher of the Year a few weeks ago, becoming the first teacher from the Gilbert School to achieve such recognition. She is a seventh-grade social studies teacher.
Pillar, a 17-year veteran of Gilbert School, was selected from five finalists, according to Principal Alan Strauss.

Rep. Case delivered the citations in the school’s media center before a room packed with teachers, staff and administrators.
“Congratulations on this honorable recognition of a job well done, and best wishes as you continue providing and promoting excellence in education,” Rep. Case said.
