Rep. Case Applauds Governor’s Brownfield Remediation Grant

HARTFORD – State Representative Jay Case (R-63) applauded the Governor Dannel Malloy’s announcement of a $100,000 grant that will be used towards the investigation of a potential brownfield property, located on 18 Mason Street in Torrington. The grant is part of a $7 million Brownfield Remediation project aimed at assessing contamination and cleaning of commercial, municipal and industrial property.
“This building on Mason Street has sat ‘ideal’ for a very long time,” Rep. Case said in regard to the potential use of the property. “I am glad to see that we are looking into what it will take to clean up the property and get it back on the tax rolls here in Torrington.”
The Mason Street property was home to an old dry cleaning service. Based on the property’s location, the state will now invest money into determining the level of contamination present and what the cost of remediation would be. Pending the results of the investigation, the property could serve as home to a new business.
The governor’s office stated that grant funding stems from the Connecticut Remedial Action and Redevelopment Municipal Grant Program. This program was established by the legislature in the 2015 session, an initiative Rep. Case supported.
