Rep. Case Applauds Bonding for Veterinarian Tech Program

HARTFORD – The State Bond Commission met today authorizing $24.7 million the for construction of a new building that will house the only Veterinary Technology program offered within the state college system. The building will be located at Northwestern Connecticut Community College’s (NCCC) Joyner Hall in Winsted said State Representative Jay Case (R-63).
NCCC’s Dr. Steven Frazier, Dean of Administration, and Patricia Bouffard, Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, joined Rep. Case and State Senator Clark Chapin (R-30) at this morning’s meeting.
The current state of the facility is inadequate to meet the needs of the Allied Health and Veterinarian curricula to prepare graduates for jobs. The allocation authorized today will be augmented by previous funding requests and monies from the Connecticut State College and University (CSCU) fund to total $28.7 million to bring the facility up to standards and complete new construction.
“Our community appreciates all the help and support we have received from our local construction services, the Board of Regents, and the Governor’s office,” stated Dr. Frazier.
“This is the only program of its kind within the state’s college system,” said Rep. Case. “As a result of today’s bonding authorization we are establishing a unique facility to cater to the needs of our future vet techs, which will lead to overall job growth and retention.”
“I’m grateful for the State of Connecticut’s continuing commitment to the Veterinary Tech program as well as the college in general,” noted Sen. Chapin. “Northwestern Connecticut Community College is a valuable resource and provides many meaningful opportunities for residents in northwest Connecticut.”
Over 400 construction jobs are expected to be created in order to complete the construction of the 24,000 sq. ft. building at Joyner Hall.
