Proposed Bonding Item to Bring Jobs to Winsted

WINSTED – The State Bond Commission is scheduled to meet next Tuesday in order to consider several bonding items including allocations for a new 24,000 sq. ft. building at Northwestern Connecticut Community College’s (NCCC) Joyner Hall in Winsted. The current state of the facility is inadequate to meet the needs of the Allied Health and Veterinarian curricula to prepare graduates for jobs.
The Joyner Hall construction project will house the only Veterinary Technology program offered within the state college system.
The approval of this allocation will adequately fund the construction of a high performance modern facility that meets the educational needs of the students as well as address any potential accreditation issues going forward for the programs that are offered by NCCC.
The project will likely bring over 400 jobs to Winsted.
“I am glad to see adequate funding allocated to the construction on Joyner Hall. This is something I have been advocating for a very long time,” said State Representative Jay Case (R-63) who represents Winsted, Colebrook and parts of Torrington and Goshen. “Not only will this construction create jobs, many of those jobs will be retained based on the functionality of the building.”
In total the proposed bonding allocation amount is $24.7 million, which is expected to be authorized by the commission at next week’s meeting.
