Colebrook – It was announced today that a $465,025 grant allocation has been awarded to the Town of Colebrook for improvements to be made to Prock Hill Road. According to State Rep. Jay Case and State Sen. Kevin Witkos, this project will support the reconstruction and repaving of the main thoroughfare located off Route 183, which will provide safer access to the YMCA Hideaway Ranch Camp and Camp Jewell.

Prock Hill Road currently sustains heavy bus traffic twelve months per year, which is compounded by large heaves from tough winters, creating significant pot holes.

The Town of Colebrook had requested state funding through the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) in order to make the necessary repairs to the road.

“Due to years harsh winters and minimal road repair this project has been at the top of Colebrook’s list of identified road repair projects for quite some time,” explained Case who authored a letter of support for the town’s request for state assistance. “Projects, such as the Prock Hill rehabilitation, will provide a safer commute to one of the Northwest Corner’s largest employers.”

Witkos, who also authored the letter of support, added, “I applaud the state for prioritizing this valuable local need for the people of Colebrook and surrounding areas. Transportation maintenance and development is truly one of the most important core functions of government and this is welcomed assistance for our community.”

“This grant is great for a small town like Colebrook, as we rely mainly on a residential tax base,” stated Colebrook’s First Selectman, Thomas McKeon, “I want to extend a sincere thank you to both Rep. Case and Sen. Witkos for their support in securing the grant allocation.”
