Case, Piscopo Present Citation to Local Arts Hero

Hartford – State Representatives Jay Case (R-63) and John Piscopo (R-76) presented a legislative citation of appreciation to Adam Atkins, Music and Chorus Teacher at The Gilbert School, during Connecticut Arts Day that was held at the State Capitol on Thursday, March 2nd, 2017. Atkins was also named a ‘Connecticut Art Hero’ during the ceremony.
“Mr. Atkins has shown his dedication and commitment to Winsted, and the surrounding community, by teaching and sharing his passion for music,” explained Rep. Case. “I commend him on his achievement of being named a Connecticut Art Hero.”
Associate Principal of The Gilbert School, Sue Sojka, stated, “To the world Adam Atkins may be a teacher, but to his students he is a hero!”
“Congratulations to Mr. Atkins on his outstanding achievement,” added Rep. Piscopo. “Teachers are an integral part in helping our students learn and develop an appreciation for the arts and music. I applaud the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council for honoring Mr. Atkins and recognizing the many contributions he has made to the community.”
In total, nine outstanding artists were recognized during Connecticut Art Day as 2017 Arts Heroes. These individuals have each made exemplary contributions in various ways to their local communities.
