Hartford – State Representative Jay Case (R-63) and Brian Ohler (R-64) met with members of the Northwest Chamber of Commerce at the Legislative Office Building on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. The chamber was visiting the Capitol as part of the Connecticut Business Industry Association’s Business Day 2017.

The conversation focused on the status of the State Budget. Currently, the Appropriations Committee, of which both Representatives Case and Ohler are members, is vetting the governor’s proposed budget, that could potentially restrict small business operations in terms of onerous regulations. In the coming weeks, the committee will produce its own proposal, which will then be voted upon by the entire legislature.

“Limiting bond allocations to conform to the prioritization of spending is a major cost-cutting measure that the legislature must consider,” explained Rep. Case. “Far too often, certain bond allocations are awarded to projects that yield no return on investment to the state. Reducing burdensome regulations on our small businesses will also have a positive impact on attracting more industries to open shop and operate within Connecticut.”

“Business Day at the Capitol has historically been a direct opportunity for business owners and their employees to meet face-to-face with their elected officials while providing them a forum to voice their concerns about the current business climate in Connecticut. As a small business owner, I can certainly relate to their outcries referencing burdensome mandates,” explained Rep. Ohler. “Connecticut is losing businesses to our neighboring states and we must reverse that trend or else we will just be enabling the mass exodus of residents and young families.”

The Northwest Chamber of Commerce represents 21 different municipalities, and is comprised of nearly 700 business entities.
