Case: ARC Family Day Next Wednesday
HARTFORD – The ARC Connecticut will be hosting its annual Family Hearing Day at the State Capitol on Wednesday, February 21st. According to State Representative Jay Case (R-63), this is a unique opportunity for families, children and adults with intellectual and developmental disorders to express their needs to state lawmakers.
“The ARC does a great job of organizing its membership to come to the Capitol on this important day. As a result of their advocacy, the legislature is provided a full public hearing to focus on the needs of these individuals. It is important to listen to what each person has to say when testifying because that is the true test of whether or not services are being delivered adequately,” explained Rep. Case, who also serves a co-chair to the legislature’s Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Caucus.
The event will take place at the Legislative Office Building, located at 300 Capitol Avenue in Hartford. It will be in Hearing Room 1C and is slated to run from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
“It’s no secret that services devoted to this population have been reduced and continually end up on the chopping block during budget discussions. I will continue to advocate for their needs to preserve this critical funding, but my fellow colleagues need to hear why such services and funding are so important directly from the source. Testimony can be very powerful, and I would encourage those with intellectual and developmental disabilities to participate next Wednesday,” said Case.
