HARTFORD – The State Bond Commission approved a $67,500 bond allocation for the Beardsley Library in Winsted on Friday morning according to State Representative Jay Case (R-63), “Today’s bond allocation matches funds that had already been collected locally by Winsted, and with the approval of the bond monies the project will be fully funded.”

In a previous statement, Beardsley Library’s Service Director, Karin Taylor, noted that local dollars had to be raised in order to trigger the release of the bond allocation. Local funds were collected through the Draper Fund, which is administered through the Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut.

Taylor also had previously noted that because of increased usage of the library in recent years the grant will go towards expanding the parking lot, which includes additional handicapped parking.

“The expanded parking will provide more access to the library, which will also allow for any potential additions to the library to be made without having to sacrifice parking,” said Rep. Case, “I applaud the Bond Commission’s allocation of the funding, which shows the state’s commitment to improving the Beardsley Library, and I will continue to advocate for adequate funding to our local libraries in the Northwest Corner.”

Following the action of the State Bond Commission, the library will now have 18 months to procure a building contractor.
