    Hartford – State Representative Jay Case (R-Winsted) was recently appointed to the Commission on Intellectual Disabilities and the Impact of COVID-19. Co-founder of the legislature’s bipartisan Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) Caucus, Case has been a long-time advocate for Connecticut residents with disabilities.

    “I look forward to examining the needs of those within the I/DD community and how the virus has impacted them. Isolation and limited access to services has had a detrimental impact on this specific population, so I am greatly looking forward to the commission beginning its work,” said Rep. Case.

    According to Case, commission appointments are currently being filled but should convene its initial meeting in the coming weeks. The members of the commission will report its findings and recommendations to the legislature. Often, these recommendations require legislative action by either passing, or amending state laws.

    House Leader Vincent Candelora said in reference to the appointment, “The experience Jay brings…will be of great value and service to our state and its citizens.”

    In previous sessions, Case has been integral to providing life-improving services to the I/DD community. He has facilitated several advocacy days in Hartford, which are focused on introducing legislators to individuals with I/DD. He also has supported initiatives to create better transportation services and easier access to health care facilities for those living in rural parts of the state.
