Temporary DMV Branch Closure - August 11- 15

Temporary DMV Branch Closure - August 11- 15
This article was archived from the previous WordPress site. Formatting and media should be close, but may not match the original post perfectly.
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will be temporarily SHUTDOWN from Tuesday, August 11 - Saturday, August 15 (except for licensing) as part of a planned technology upgrade. The closure will allow for the replacement and testing of a computer system in an effort to make their office more efficient, and to allow residents greater use of online resources in the future. If you need license or ID card renewals during the DMV shutdown, please consider visiting a AAA office. Click here for locations. It's important to note:
    • The expiration date of all driver's licenses, ID cards or vehicle registrations will be extended through October 10, 2015
    • Renewals can be done without a late fee until October 10, 2015
    • Emissions test due dates have not been extended - you must be up to date with compliance
    • All customers who take advantage of the registration extension must maintain insurance coverage on their vehicles
When the upgrade is complete, the DMV will have a new online menu for consumers that will offer the following:
    • Improvement of the existing online registration renewal program
    • Online checking for items such as unpaid property taxes, lack of insurance, delinquent parking violations, which can hold up a registration renewal and cause repeat trips to DMV
    • Reprinting a registration certificate from a home or other computer
    • Canceling a registration online
    • Ordering of special plates, including vanity plates
    • Ordering online replacements for damaged plates
    • Providing customers with an option for DMV to contact them either by mail or e-mail
For more information about the DMV modernization project, please visit http://ct.gov/dmv. As always, if you have any questions or concerns about state government, feel free to reach out to me. Vincent Candelora State Representative 86th General Assembly District
