House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora and state Sen. Paul Cicarella met with veterans from their districts today to discuss legislation aimed at making renewal of driver's licenses and identification cards easier. Read testimony about the proposal here. Pictured from left to right: Sen. Paul Cicarella (R-North Haven), East Haven American Legion Post 89 Chaplain Wendy Bellmore, Legion member and East Haven Republican Town Committee Chairman Eric Kropiwnicki, Legion member and retired special agent Frank McCarthy, and House Minority Leader Vincent Candelora (R-North Branford) on Jan. 30 met at the Capitol for a public hearing on Sen. Cicarella’s proposed bill that would enable Veterans to renew their driver’s licenses and identification cards at the annual Veterans Stand Down events, held at multiple locations across the state each September. “After listening to many Veterans in our district, this option will make license and identification renewals more accessible for Veterans across the state, especially those with limited transportation options. Hundreds of Veterans benefit from the annual Stand Down events, which offer many resources, and adding this component increases their value. We owe it to our Veterans to find ways to make dealing with state government more convenient, and this is a straightforward way to accomplish that. We will continue to support Connecticut’s Veterans,” the lawmakers said.
