HARTFORD — House Republicans on Monday announced that state Reps. Vincent Candelora and Jason Perillo have been designated to serve on the Reapportionment Committee. State legislators are required by the U.S. Constitution and Connecticut constitution to redraw district boundaries every 10 years in order to adjust to changes in population. State lawmakers make up 8 spots on the committee, with the General Assembly's four caucuses each receiving two appointments. "We look forward to serving the people of Connecticut through our participation in this critical task that will unfortunately be made more challenging by the pandemic," Candelora and Perillo said. "Like our colleagues from the other caucuses, we are committed to a transparent and open process as we navigate COVID-related delays and how they impact our state's strict timelines." According to federal and state law, districts must be redrawn based on population shifts so that they will maintain equity in order for each person's vote to carry equal importance. Sept. 15 is the deadline for the General Assembly to adopt a redistricting plan. Candelora is House Republican Leader and is state representative for the 86th House District serving residents of North Branford, Guilford, Durham and Wallingford. Perillo is Deputy House Republican Leader and is state representative for the 113th House District serving residents of Shelton.
