HARTFORD — House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora and Rep. Devin Carney, House Ranking Member of the Government Oversight Committee, issued the following statement Friday in response to a CT Mirror report detailing a towing scheme that made thousands of dollars for a DMV employee, calling for an immediate Transportation Committee hearing: "Calling the findings in this latest news report on towed vehicle sales ‘troubling’ would be a massive understatement. Any average citizen reading this would probably view it as corruption, plain and simple. Transportation Committee leaders must immediately bring the DMV commissioner—and even the State’s Attorney’s office—before them to explain what happened and outline the necessary reforms to close any loopholes that allowed this to occur. State government is meant to serve residents, not exploit them. The fact that someone can brazenly use their taxpayer-funded position for personal gain is nothing short of outrageous."
