    Promotes Literacy and Celebrates Reading

Representative Vincent Candelora read to elementary school students of Jerome Harrison Elementary School, March 2nd at 1:30 PM as part of the Read Across America program to promote literacy and celebrate reading with young students. Candelora is a Jerome Harrison alumnus and the school continues to be part of the Candelora family. The school’s gymnasium was transformed into “Camp Read-A-Lot” with tents and an artificial campfire for students to enjoy their storybook adventures. Candelora read Three Billy Goats Gruff, an old fairy tale, and Duck for President by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin to students. The Read Across America program is an annual literacy awareness campaign organized by the National Education Association to celebrate reading and is observed on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss’s birthday.
