HARTFORD—House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora’s support for the state's business community during the 2023 legislative session has earned him a 100 percent score from the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA). "The ripple effect of a slumping economy can't be understated, and I haven't lost sight of the fact that it's our job, as members of the General Assembly, to set policies that are focused on creating the best possible environment for the very people we need to lead our state's economic recovery—the business community," said Candelora, who represents the 86th Assembly District serving residents of Durham, East Haven, Guilford and North Branford. CBIA, the state's largest business advocacy organization, graded all 151 House members and 36 Senate members according to their votes on 10 bills it said would impact job growth and the state's post-pandemic recovery. Several of the bills were concepts included in CBIA's Transform Connecticut policy solutions pledge, which last fall garnered support from Candelora as well as bipartisan group of more than 80 state lawmakers. Candelora said the historically high cost of living and running a business in Connecticut, combined with crushing inflation, is squeezing the finances of the state’s residents as well as its job creators. “A critical component of helping business owners in this state is to actually listen to them, something we simply don’t see enough of in a legislature that has grown antagonistic toward Main Street,” Candelora said. “I look forward to the start of the next legislative session in February to work on issues of importance to the many companies of all shapes and sizes that power our local, regional, and state economies.” Read CBIA's 2023 scorecard here.
