Candelora Announces Wall Field Relocation Funds

Deputy House Republican Leader Vincent J. Candelora (R-86) today announced that $350,000 had been allocated through a Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant to assist with the relocation of Wall Field, a baseball park located to the senior center in North Branford along Route 80. Wall Field, routinely used by the North Branford Little League, must be moved due to the final phase of the Route 80 widening project.

The state road-widening project has been ongoing for the better part of a decade, and the STEAP grant adds to a $400,000 grant through the State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) for the relocation project. “With the old Wall Field being demolished through the necessary Route 80 widening project, the town is losing a tremendous and long-relied on recreational field that has seen generations of little leaguers grow up on it,” said Rep. Candelora. “In losing this resource through the state DOT project, the town should regain a new field with comparable amenities. This particular STEAP grant will allow for the new field to have functional restroom facilities and concession areas just as the old field did.”

The town has determined that it would like to relocate the field on the Swajchuck Park property located at 260 Forest Road in North Branford. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall in conjunction with the Department of Transportation’s work on that segment of Route 80.

“I want to thank Governor Malloy for recognizing this important need created by the Route 80 reconstruction by providing this grant and continuing to make the Town of North Branford a priority,” said Candelora.
