  • Grants will fund repairs from damage done by historic flooding

State Representative Jason Buchsbaum applauded state funding being awarded for work at two properties located in Southbury.

The state Bond Commission on Thursday, December 18, 2025, approved $500,000 for HVAC improvements at Southbury Training School. Funding for Kettletown State Park is part of a larger $20 million allocation. These funds will finance statewide improvements, repairs, and new construction at various State Parks.

The funding for Kettletown State Park is for storm and flood damage recovery as well as priority bath house and restroom building renovations.

"I want to thank Gov. Lamont and the Bond Commission for approving these allocations to help our community. The 2024 flooding in Southbury devastated so much infrastructure around the region and it's taken time to make all of the necessary repairs," said Rep. Buchsbaum.

Buchsbaum and other members of the legislative delegation also secured a $350,000 grant-in-aid to the Town of Southbury, approved in September by the State Bond Commission. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved various amounts of reimbursement for the repairs, and the state grant will cover the balance of the costs after FEMA reimbursement.
