Rep. Bolinsky Speaks on Importance of “Aging in Place” Services

HARTFORD – Last week, Representative Mitch Bolinsky (R-Newtown) participated in a public hearing on the increasing need for “aging in place” services in Connecticut.
During the public hearing held by the legislature’s Program Review and Investigations (PRI) Committee, legislators received an update on PRI’s study on “Factors Influencing Receipt of Long-term Care Services and Supports in Home and Community Settings.,” which will examine the differences in care patients receive in nursing homes versus community based settings, and determine the efficiency of each system.
Rep. Bolinsky was invited to attend as the House Republican Ranking Member on the Aging Committee, and spoke on the importance of moving quickly to provide support for seniors aging in place and their caregivers.
“As an individual who has elderly family members living with me in my home and receiving services, I see the positive impact that aging in place services have firsthand,” said Rep. Bolinsky. “Institutional care is no longer preferred from both a quality of life and cost effectiveness perspective. It is time to be nimble and adapt to this system of state services to a better way! I look forward to continuing this important discussion with my colleagues in the coming months.”
The study is still being undertaken by the PRI Committee, and findings should be reported later this year.
