HARTFORD- State Reps. Dan Carter (R-2), Mitch Bolinsky (R-106) and DebraLee Hovey (R-112) welcomed Newtown Town Clerk Debbie Aurelia Halstead to the State Capitol on Thursday, May 1st for Clerk’s Day at the Capitol.

The annual Connecticut Town Clerks Association day at the State Capitol permits town clerks from around the state to visit with their respective legislators, lobby for issues affecting their job and community and thank them for their support.

Rep. Bolinsky said, “I always enjoy visitors at the capitol and especially appreciate having Debbie make time to see me.  She’s so energetic and full of good ideas but, most of all, has such a love for Newtown that she just always seems ready to represent our town in the most professional way.  It was an honor to introduce her to the entire House of Representatives.”

Hovey said, “Without town clerks like Debbie the democratic process would grind to a halt in our state,” Rep. Hovey said.  “Debbie has always been a hard-working and diligent town clerk and I’m proud we were able to acknowledge her commitment and dedication to Newtown here at the Capitol.”

Carter said, “Debbie is a tremendous asset to our community, and this was a great opportunity for us to recognize her hard work,” Rep. Carter said. “Having such a smart and helpful point person in municipal government is vital to keeping residents well served and the town business flowing smoothly. We’re thrilled to host her at the Capitol, and glad she could take part in the day’s activities.”

The Connecticut Town Clerks Association (CTCA) was founded in 1915 and incorporated in 1956, the association is driven by the town clerks, assistants, and deputies who volunteer their time and energy to the association’s committees and drive the success of the organization.

The CT Town Clerks Association is dedicated to the promotion and education of its members running its own conferences and educational classes and offering basic and advanced state certifications.

A few of the many responsibilities the Town Clerk has is the keeper of a town’s vital records and administering state and local elections.
