Newtown Delegation to residents: here’s how to make your voice heard

In an effort to ensure Newtown residents make their voices heard to lawmakers, State Reps. DebraLee Hovey (R-112), Dan Carter (R-2) and Mitch Bolinsky (R-106) are inviting folks to participate in a local public hearing on issues related to the tragic Sandy Hook shooting.
At the hearing, which will be conducted by the bipartisan Task Force on Gun Violence Prevention and Children’s Safety, the public will weigh in on a range of controversial issues relating to the massacre, such as school safety, gun control and mental health.
The newly released guidelines for public testimony are as follows:
Date: Wednesday, January 30 (tomorrow)
Time: 6:00pm – 9:00pm, or as needed to accommodate participation
Location: Newtown High School Auditorium, 12 Berkshire Road, Newtown
Time limit: speakers will be limited to 3 minutes of testimony, which may be extended by a Task Force member’s questioning
Registration: Registration begins at 4:30pm. Speakers will need to submit name and place of residence, and will be entered into a lottery to determine the order of participation.
Speaking preference: preference will be given to victims’ families, first responders, public officials including Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra, and other Newtown-connected individuals, with the option to alternate between Newtown/Sandy Hook stakeholders and other residents.
The public can submit testimony electronically by emailing asaferconnecticut@cga.ct.gov
Those unable to attend the public hearing are encouraged to watch the proceedings live on the Connecticut Public Affairs television network, CT-N, or stream it online at http://www.ctn.state.ct.us/
