NEWTOWN- State and local officials were on hand last week as the Newtown Bridle Lands Association (NBLA), the Catharine Violet Hubbard Foundation, and the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard celebrated the Grand Opening of the Trail of Angels at Fairfield Hills in Newtown with a trail ride event.

The Trail of Angels is a memorial trail administered by the NBLA, and is dedicated as a tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragedy in Sandy Hook on December 14, 2012. It is located at the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary.

State Representatives Mitch Bolinsky (R-106), J.P. Sredzinski (R-112), Laura Hoydick (R-120), and United States Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) joined former State Representative DebraLee Hovey, NBLA President Dee Davis, Matt and Jenny Hubbard and Deputy Director of Planning and Land Use for Newtown Rob Sibley.

“I was so grateful to been invited to this opening and to stand with so many who made this beautiful Trail of Angels possible. Newtown Bridal Lands, our Second Company Horse Guard, countless volunteers and, of course, Jenny and Matt Hubbard, worked hand in hand and the result is special”, said Rep. Bolinsky. “This trail honors all of Sandy Hook’s Angels.  Being within the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary is such a great fit.  The Hubbard’s commitment to Catherine’s dream is truly inspirational. I know many in our community will enjoy this trail for years to come.”

“It was an honor to be a part of such a terrific community event such as this one,” said Rep. Sredzinski. “This expanded use trail will serve the nature lovers and horse lovers of Newtown for many years to come.”

“I was honored to be part of this wonderful event and am grateful to the Hubbard family, Newtown Bridle Land Association and the 2nd Company Governor’s Horse Guard for affording our community this beautiful and peaceful sanctuary of nature,” said Rep. Hoydick.

The NBLA is a nonprofit volunteer organization formed in 1978 within the town of Newtown with the goal of fostering an interest in horseback riding as well as preserving, protecting and maintaining riding and hiking trails in the community.
