I-84 Ramp Closures Scheduled in Newtown

I-84 Ramp Closures Scheduled in Newtown

I wanted to make sure everyone’s aware that, in addition to current state roadwork in process along Wasserman Way, South Main Street and Church Hill Roads, there’s lots more state roadwork “ramping” up.

All of the below work is scheduled for night, to minimize inconvenience, and will improve road conditions, flow and safety for the long run. I also want you to know that each of these jobs have been years in planning and long-ago budgeted, allocated or bonded in prior state budget years. It may sound crazy but, this work does not impact the state’s current 2020 – 2021 budget.

Below, you’ll see a bevy of highway ramp closures associated with bridge maintenance and paving on Interstate 84, along with suggested detours.  I will issue a local state road project update shortly, as well.

I wanted to make you aware that the Connecticut Department of Transportation has scheduled several overnight ramp closures along I-84 in Newtown. These closures will occur over the course of five nights, from Monday, June 17th to Friday, June 21st. All closures will occur between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. in order to reduce the amount of traffic volume flowing by construction zones. The closures and detours are necessary to facilitate construction and safety improvement activities.

Details for the scheduled closures, along with detour instructions, are as follows:

Exit 9 ramp on I-84 Westbound (Tuesday, June 18 & Wednesday, June 19)

    • DETOUR INSTRUCTIONS:
      • Westbound Exit 9 off-ramp: Take exit 8 and follow signs to I-84 EB to detour.
      • Westbound Exit 9 on-ramp: Follow Route 25 to Route 6 to detour.

Exit 9 ramp closure on I-84 Eastbound (Thursday, June 20)

    • DETOUR INSTRUCTIONS:
      • Eastbound Exit 9 off-ramp: Take exit 10 follow Route 25 detour.
      • Eastbound Exit 9 on-ramp: Follow Route 25 detour to exit 10.

Exit 10 ramp closure on I-84 Eastbound (Monday, June 17)

    • DETOUR INSTRUCTIONS:
      • Westbound Exit 10 off-ramp: Take exit 9 and follow signs to Route 25 to Route 6 to detour.
      • Westbound Exit 10 on-ramp: Follow detour Route 6 to Route 25 to I-84 WB.

Exit 10 ramp closure on I-84 Westbound (Friday, June 21)

    • DETOUR INSTRUCTIONS:
      • Eastbound Exit 10 off-ramp: Take exit 11 follow Route 6 detour.
      • Eastbound Exit 10 on-ramp: Follow Route 6 to Route 34 detour to exit 11.

Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in these areas and to stay alert for roadside workers, traffic control persons and orange instructional signs.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding our state government, please do not hesitate to contact me.
