DOT Public Meeting: Rt. 25 & Pecks Lane Project

I wanted to pass along information from the Connecticut Department of Transportation regarding a Public Informational Meeting they are holding on proposed intersection improvements at Route 25 and Pecks Lane in Newtown. Please see below for details on the project and the meeting.
Public Informational Meeting – Project No. 096-0196 – Intersection Improvements in Newtown
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Informational Meeting concerning the Intersection Improvements at Route 25 and Pecks Lane in the Town of Newtown on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Lecture Room at Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road (Route 34) Newtown, Connecticut. A design presentation will be provided at 7:00 p.m.
The project is identified as State Project No. 096-0196.
State Project No. 096-0196 would consist of eliminating the connector roadway and realigning Pecks Lane to intersect CT Route 25 at a 60-degree angle approximately 250 feet south from the existing intersection. It is also proposed to extend the southbound bypass shoulder on CT Route 25 from the Cedar Hill Road intersection through the proposed Pecks Lane realigned intersection. Adjustments to the existing drainage would be required to accommodate the proposed improvements.
The intersection sight distance looking right at the intersection of Cedar Hill Road and Route 25 will also be improved. This will require the stone wall on the property of 128 South Main Street to be removed and for the existing slope to be regraded.
Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2018 and the estimated construction cost is approximately $2.2 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with eighty percent (80%) Federal funds and twenty percent (20%) State funds.
The Public Informational Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning the proposed project.
The meeting facility is ADA accessible. Deaf and hearing impaired persons wishing to attend these meetings and requiring an interpreter must make arrangements by contacting the Department of Transportation’s Office of Communications (voice only) at (860) 594-3062 at least five working days prior to the meeting. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public, and efforts will be made to respond to requests for assistance.
Plans of the proposed project will be on display for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss the project. More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
