NEWTOWN- State Representatives Dan Carter (R-2) and Mitch Bolinsky (R-106) held a 2013 legislative wrap-up event at the Newtown Municipal Center to talk about the just concluded legislative session and Connecticut’s current budget.

“I was glad to have the opportunity to speak with Newtown residents about the session,” said Rep. Bolinsky, about the recently concluded 2013 legislative session, his first in Hartford.  In addition to representing his home town on the General Assembly’s Education and Environment Committees, the Newtown legislator served on the on the Appropriations Committee, the budget writing committee of the General Assembly. ”We had a productive exchange of ideas and people gained a better understanding of the sheer breadth of important issues debated during a very unique five month session.  It was a full plate of priorities and we probably could have used another five months to properly give every issue the attention it deserved. ”

The legislators showed a power point presentation that showcased the issues where legislators agreed and differed on during the session, which you can view by clicking this link. http://www.housegop.ct.gov/hroc/bolinsky/2013/2013 End of Session.pdf

“A lot of weighty and far-reaching legislation was passed this session, and it’s important to give folks the opportunity to learn more about the new laws being implemented across the state,” State Rep. Dan Carter said. “I want to thank everyone who offered feedback and participated in a very productive dialogue.”

After the presentation, Carter and Bolinsky answered questions from residents ranging from mental health treatment, gun control, school safety and identifying genetically modified organisms to concerns about our state’s unsustainably high level of borrowing.  Audience and representatives concluded with a spirited discussion of Connecticut’s anemic approach to economic development, the questionable wisdom of deficit spending and continued increases to the size of state government at a time when Connecticut has actually experienced a net loss of jobs over the last 20-years.
