For years, the 1.3 million Connecticut heroes and heroines who have served since the Revolutionary War have not had a statewide memorial to call their own. That is about to change. Earlier this year, a final design was unveiled for a new www.cthonorsvets.org Connecticut State Veterans Memorial to be built on the State Capitol campus in Hartford.
Construction of the new monument will begin soon, and the non-profit committee in charge of the memorial’s construction is offering the opportunity to purchase a granite paver to honor a veteran. A walkway of pavers will run from the Legislative Office Building to the center of the memorial plaza. Each paver can be engraved with the name of a U.S. veteran, with his or her rank, branch of the military, and the specific years of service and conflict, if desired.
Towns and cities can also purchase pavers with their town or city name engraved in honor of residents who have served or are presently serving. You can use this link to download an order form. Contact your local officials and urge them to have your town represented!
