Bolinsky Stands up for State Veterans

HARTFORD-State Rep. Mitch Bolinsky (R-106) joined a bi-partisan group of lawmakers and veterans from all over the state at a Veterans rally meant to express opposition to the Governor’s proposed budget cuts used to support military funeral honors which include rifle teams which fire graveside salutes and the playing of Taps.
Rep. Bolinsky said, ”In this great nation, we enjoy freedoms and privileges that are the envy of our entire world. For these liberties, we have our veterans to thank. The Governor’s act of eliminating the state’s share of proper military honors to those who bravely and proudly served is not only an unimaginable slap in the face to our veterans but also not legal under Connecticut General Statutes, Chapter 504, section 27-76, which requires veterans be provided official military honor guard services, if requested by family or friends. Restoration of this miniscule budget cut is not only the right thing to do – it’s the law.”
In Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s budget, he proposes to cut the funds used to support military funeral honors which include rifle teams which fire graveside salutes and the playing of Taps.
The April 15th veterans rally at the State Capitol was organized by Purple Heart recipient Micah Welintukonis from Coventry.
