Bolinsky Speaks to Home Builders

HARTFORD- State Rep. Mitch Bolinsky of Newtown spoke with Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Connecticut, Inc. today April 9th at their Annual Home Building Industry Day at the State Capitol.
Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Connecticut has 900 member firms employing over 35,000 people throughout the state which includes “Builder” member firms which are engaged in new residential construction (both single family and multifamily units), new light commercial construction, remodeling and renovation of existing residential and commercial buildings, and land development activities on residential, commercial and industrial zoned land; and “Associate” member firms which are in businesses providing supplies, services and expertise to the building, remodeling and land development industries.
Bolinsky singled out the Homebuilders and Remodelers Association of Fairfield County, Inc. (HBRA) for their hard work and advocacy for their members.
“This is an industry that has been severely hurt due by the downturn in the state’s real estate market. Connecticut home builders and their many subcontractors provide thousands of jobs for our state residents. We, as lawmakers need to examine any way we can promote pro-jobs legislation,” said Rep. Bolinsky.
This year the HBRA is advocating for HB-5510, An Act Providing A Limited Property Tax Exemption For Homes Under Construction, which would provide a limited property tax exemption from higher assessments for a home builder’s inventory until 1) a certificate of occupancy is obtained, 2) the home is actually occupied, or 3) the home is transferred to a buy, whichever occurs first. This would permit builders to have ‘model’ homes to sell their products and would help builders afford to keep their inventory ahead of the marketplace to keep their workers on the job.
Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Connecticut mission is to solve industry problems and promote its growth, upholding the highest degree of professionalism, integrity, work ethic, and association management expertise and industry knowledge.
