Bolinsky: Speak Out Against Higher Electricity Rates

Bolinsky: Speak Out Against Higher Electricity Rates

    ElectricRates

Our electricity rates are already among the highest in the country, but are poised to possibly rise even higher because CL&P is seeking a rate hike of 5.9 percent on residential delivery services. So, even if you have chosen another electricity supplier, the CL&P portion of your bill still increase. Every customer in CL&P’s service areas will be hit in the wallet.

If approved, the average non-heating residential customer’s monthly bill would increase by $12.48. That’s $150 smackers a year!

I am mad as heck over this proposed increase. Aren’t you?

To my dismay there have been no hearings in Newtown area, nor will there be. In fact, The closest public hearing was held in Stamford, on August 28th. The only other hearings were on August 27 in New Britain and in New London on September 3 at City Hall.

The good news, if any, is that state officials will not issue a decision on the proposed increase until December so, there is time to express your unhappiness and help influence this consumer-unfriendly action by CL&P.

I encourage you to share your thoughts on the increase by following the below steps to submit your comments to the CT Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA):

    • You can email your comments as soon as possible to Pura.Executivesecretary@ct.gov.
    • CC your email to me at Mitch.Bolinsky@housegop.ct.gov
    • Please put ‘Docket Number 14-05-06’ in the email’s subject line.

Your comments on the rate hike proposal can be as brief as you like.

I hope this information has been helpful.

    Make yourself heard…

    Best,

    Mitch
