HARTFORD – State Representative Mitch Bolinsky (R-Newtown) participated in Platform to Employment’s (P2E) Graduation Ceremony at the State Capitol on Friday, April 27, 2018. P2E is a program that facilitates employment opportunities for experienced, mature professionals who find themselves among the ranks of the long-term unemployed.

Rep. Bolinsky enthusiastically supports this very successful program, saying: “P2E is a catalyst for employers to access a quality pool of employee candidates that have faced adversity late in their careers. These are hard-working, resourceful individuals with lots of gas left in the tank. What better way to expand our workforce in Connecticut than by putting talented, motivated people back to work. Whether job loss by downsizing or having one’s employer relocate out of state, P2E has a placement rate of more than 80%. Many of us, myself included, have faced the trials and tribulations of job elimination and having to reinvent ourselves. I was lucky to have transitioned from being a dislocated marketing executive to public service. It’s a dream come true to have earned the privilege of being Newtown’s voice and advocate in Hartford. My personal experience makes it easy for me to truly relate to every person in this program. Their determination and success, with a little skill refinement by Platform to Employment, makes every graduate ready to go back to work. Their resilience makes each one my hero.”

P2E has served 1,425 CT residents from 155 towns in our state, including Newtown. As referenced above, more than 80% of program participants get successfully placed in full-time positions and nearly 70% of participants are 50 years of age or older.

“This is an incredible success story! The return on investment of P2E is double what the state invests in the program. Graduates go on to earn a good living, pay income taxes, spend their disposable income in their community, pay property taxes and, very often, give back in the form of civic engagement, volunteer hours, charitable causes and mentoring others to seek positive outcomes, even if adversity drops in for a visit.”

Bolinsky concluded, “I commend all of the program’s participants and have full confidence they will find new employment opportunities. I can’t stress strongly enough how much I love this program!”
