Bolinsky: Newtown’s Veterans Day Celebrations

Here is a list of local events in Newtown to honor veterans this Veterans Day.
On November 9th there will be an unveiling of the Veterans Mural, in the Newtown Municipal Center at 11:00 a.m.
Artist David Merrill designed and painted the mural which is a floor-to-ceiling mural installed at Newtown Municipal Center. The mural contains the names of Newtown’s men and women who have served in the Armed Forces since 1971. An earlier remembrance for those who served prior to 1971 is in Edmond Town Hall.
Following the unveiling, light refreshments will be served at the VFW Post 308 on Freedom Defenders Way.
Laurie McCollum and the Project Newtown Troops and Veterans committee members commissioned David Merrill to create the artwork. Residents interested in adding a veteran’s name to the project or making a contribution can send an e-mail to Ms McCollum at LaurieM30@sbcglobal.net.
On November 11th the Town of Newtown will have its official Veterans Day Memorial ServiceTop of FormBottom of Form at 11:00pm- 12:00pm at the VFW Post 308 Freedom Defenders Way, all invited to join VFW Post Commander James Rebman, First Selectman Pat Llodra and others to honor those who have and are serving in the Armed Forces; 203-482-0431.
On November 11th at Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road. Newtown High School will be hosting the Thank-a-Veteran Day, Veterans Day Assembly on Monday, November 11. The event will begin with a luncheon at 11 am, followed by an assembly at noon.
The event is to recognize and to thank men and women who have served or are presently serving the country. All Newtown veterans are cordially invited to attend the luncheon and the assembly.
