Bolinsky, Carter, Sredzinski & Hwang to Hold Newtown Food Drive

NEWTOWN- With the turn of a New Year and the wintery months upon us, State Reps. Mitch Bolinsky (106), Dan Carter (2), J.P. Sredzinski (112) and State Senator Tony Hwang (28), along with the Newtown’s Social Services Department, are holding a food drive in the months of January and February to benefit Newtown families’ in-need.
The Newtown’s Social Services Department has a significant need for food donations year around and especially during the winter months. The Newtown Social Services Department oversees programs for town residents, such as the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program, Operation Fuel, Renters Rebate program for the elderly and disabled and The Salvation Army Emergency Food Pantry.
Rep. Bolinsky said, “It’s important to remember that, even after the holidays, as most folks transition back into their normal routines, there are members of our community who need our help. Newtown is such a caring community and this is one way we take care of our own. Until Connecticut’s economic recovery becomes more widespread, we will have neighbors that can use a little boost. Newtowners know the importance of this endeavor and a remarkable spirit of caring.”
“There is no deadline for those families in-need; our goal is to keep these food pantry shelves full year round. For families experiencing difficult choices, our local food banks and social services are a tremendous asset to prevent those in need from having to choose between nutritious meals and heating their homes,” said Rep. Sredzinski.
“The Newtown Food Drive has been so successful in the past,” said Rep. Carter. “I have high hopes that our community’s spirit of giving will continue to flourish throughout this year. There’s never a better time than the present to do just a little extra for your friends and neighbors, who you know would do the same for you in a time of need.”
“Time and again Newtowners have stepped up and shown the true essence of community spirit by helping their fellow neighbors during times of need. I’m hoping we’ll once again see that generosity for this food drive, which is our way of helping channel that good will to those among us who need it most,” said Sen. Hwang.
