Bolinsky Visits Students at St. Rose School

Newtown – State Representative Mitch Bolinsky (R-Newtown) spent the entire morning, Thursday, March 29, 2018 with students and teachers at St. Rose School, in recognition of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and a celebration of Read Across America 2018.
Originally scheduled for the actual day of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2, 2018, the event was postponed three times because of snow. Finally, with spring having sprung, Bolinsky got to read a selection of Dr. Seuss stories to the youngsters and speak to them about the importance of community service, kindness, charity and helping others.
“I had a great time visiting with so many of the students at St. Rose and was blown away by their incredible level of engagement. These 3rd, 4th, and 7th graders were all so welcoming and sweet. I love reading and it was awesome how all of these young women and men were so totally tuned in to all the underlying symbols and metaphors of Dr. Seuss.’ It was fun discussing the stories’ morals and lessons to be learned. We ran the gamut from emotional sensitivity to environmental stewardship” beamed Rep. Bolinsky.
After reading, we did a Q & A with each class. Their questions were really well thought out, mostly focused on public service, what made me want to become a community helper, how laws are made and what I enjoy most about my job. We touched on the importance of bringing our local issues to the Capitol, so we get our fair share and how many of my bill proposals come from ideas or issues from members of the Newtown community.”
The most common question posed by the students was why and how Rep. Bolinsky became interested in public service.
“I’ve always been a community volunteer. Public service is a natural extension of that. I truly love people, righting wrongs and doing good,” said Bolinsky, “It’s how I was raised. It is also important to me to not be a typical ‘politician’. When helping others, I’m more interested in actually making a difference, rather than
arguing over the rules of how to help. When asked if it was hard to make decisions, I explained ‘it can be’ but told them, when it’s hard, seek advice and consider opposing views. Sometimes, different ways can get better results so, be willing to learn and change course, as long as you don’t compromise your values, what’s important to you, your family, our community and our world. Focus on good and you’ll usually make good choices.”
In recognition of St. Rose’s participation with the Read Across America event, Rep. Bolinsky presented a legislative citation to the school. Accepting the citation was Mr. Robert Zepperoli who facilitated Rep. Bolinsky’s visit to the school.
