Honoring Our Heroes – CT HERO Act Signed into Law

HARTFORD - I had the distinct honor of joining Governor Ned Lamont, several Connecticut veterans, and my colleagues on the Veterans’ and Military Affairs Committee for the ceremonial signing of the Connecticut HERO Act—a comprehensive new law aimed at strengthening the support we provide to veterans, active duty service members, and military families across our state.

The CT HERO Act is more than legislation; it’s a reflection of our enduring commitment to those who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms. I’m proud to have played a role in shaping and advancing this important bill through the legislative process.

Key provisions of the HERO Act include:

✅ Officially declaring November as Veterans’ Month in Connecticut
✅ Creating specialty license plates to honor women veterans and The Borinqueneers, the proud Hispanic-American 65th Infantry Regiment
✅ Waiving certain DMV fees for veterans
✅ Strengthening educational stability for military-connected students
✅ Authorizing new state military awards and ribbons
✅ Launching a study on dental services for veterans to improve access and outcomes
...and several additional measures to support and uplift our veteran community.

This law reinforces our shared responsibility to not only honor our veterans in word but also support them through action and policy. It is one step forward in a continuing mission to serve those who have served us.
